Transcoding to uncompressed transfer syntax fails on C-MOVE

Hello!

I have a Orthanc server (v1.7.3) that stores a study in the JPEG Lossless format (uploaded using the REST API). When I now use pynetdicom to download the images (using a C-MOVE to itself) I get the following error (from Orthanc log):

From the transfer chapter of the Orthanc Book (https://book.orthanc-server.com/faq/transcoding.html#transcoding, “By default, this automated decompression is enabled.”) I would expect that the DICOM images are automatically transcoded to an uncompressed transfer syntax.
Any ideas why this automatic transcoding does not work in this case?

Below is also the full debug output of the server communication from pynetdicom. It seems that even an uncompressed context was accepted (Context ID: 5 (Accepted)).

Sure, it’s nearly the official example from the pynetdicom site (https://pydicom.github.io/pynetdicom/stable/examples/qr_move.html).
Below an example with all StoragePresentationContexts and interesting part in the debug log (the log of my first message was just with

ExplicitVRLittleEndian as supported transfer syntax to make the full log a bit smaller).

If this is still not enough I can provide a fully working example with a running Orthanc instance and example DICOM in a Gitpod container (would take some time to set up).

Thanks for your minimal working example!

I confirm that there was a problem when configuration option “SynchronousCMove” is set to “true”: In this situation, the Orthanc C-MOVE SCP will send C-STORE SCU requests to pynetdicom where transcoding is not enabled (no matter how the options related to transcoding are configured). This is fixed by the following changeset:
https://hg.orthanc-server.com/orthanc/rev/067c679626a2

The fix will be part of the next release of Orthanc. In the meantime, you can try and set the configuration option “SynchronousCMove” to “false”.

Cool, thank you a lot for the help and this wonderful project! I work on an Open Source project (ADIT - A swiss army knife for DICOM transfers, to be released soon) myself and ORTHANC helps me a lot to test stuff and figure things out.
