Question about Orthanc Peering. Can it be uni-directional, etc.

I have peering setup on the local intranet, mostly to have an easy way to move studies from one Orthanc instance to another one.

I’ve played around a bit also with using DICOM TLS, but now I am interested in having the ability to setup a sort of mini-PACS for referring physicians who operate out of a clinic located elsewhere so that we could send them completed studies (with PDF reports as part of the study) to their “mini-PACS”. Seems like it would be much easier to do that using Peering than having to setup DICOM TLS or via a “Portal” that gives access to our PACS via a Viewer.

Just wondering if the peering can be a basically uni-directional operation such that we would be able to push studies to them, but they would not be able to send data or otherwise performs queries the other direction. For larger clinic where providers actually want to view studies, that seems like it would be an option.

They would likely have to have a dedicated system, but the hardware would not have to be that substantial. Not sure if they would then also need a domain name, or if a static IP would be sufficient ?

Thanks.

Hi,

Peering is uni-directional by design, you can only push to a peer.

The sender Orthanc does not need to be public but the receiver must be publicly available with a public domain name or static IP. Note that you’ll need a valid HTTPS certificate for the receivers.

Alain.
