Choice of OS. Uniqueness of StudyInstanceUID, is it possible to add a custom dicom field to an instance or study ?

  1. I posted a question earlier about choice of OS. Looks like a Debian system is a better choice when compared to CentOS. Maybe 20 minutes to install through apt-get and editing the config file, vs. compiling from source and configuring CentOS.

  2. I am not familiar with DICOM that much, but some. Wondering about how unique StudyInstanceUID ? I’ve seen different statements about that on the internet. Is that universally unqiue, or is it possible to have “collisions” occasionally ?

  3. is it possible to add a custom DICOM field to a study after it is uploaded via the web interface, or more likely through the API.

It looks like you.can create MetaData and Attachments, so that may be more appropriate if some custom value is attached to a study.

Terminology of advanced features

Finally, It looks like the Osimis viewer requires a license. How much is that, and can it be used without using a Docker Instance on a Debian system. Can OHIF be installed on Mac OS, and can it be used in conjunction with Orthanc ?

Thanks.

  1. The Osimis Web viewer is free and open-source, and only necessitates a licence if you need CE class 1 labeling.

  2. Questions regarding OHIF should be asked to the dedicated forum:
