View a single series using the Stone Web viewer

Hi,

Is there a way to configure the Stone Web Viewer to be able to open a single series (rather than the entire study)?

As I navigate OE2, the Stone Viewer is available at the Study level, but when I enter a specific Series I am now only able to open the series with Kitware’s VolView (the only other viewer I have enabled).

Is there a reason why the Stone Web Viewer isn’t available at the series level?

Hi @mattwrkntn

I have added this request to the OE2 TODO,

Alain

Hello,

Just for clarity: Although OE2 does not support this feature yet (see Alain’s answer), the original Orthanc Explorer does allow opening the Stone Web viewer at the series level. This can be seen on our demo server. This could be a solution until OE2 implements this feature.

Kind Regards,
Sébastien-

Thanks both for your responses. Glad to see I can open a single series on the legacy OE side of things. I look forward to the addition to OE2.

Hello @mattwrkntn - out of curiosity, what’s the use case to only open 1 series?

I’m not sure I have a very convincing use case for only opening a single series…but here goes:

  • I expect it would be somewhat faster to load a single series of interest rather than loading an entire study of many series.
  • Other viewer plugins (e.g., Kitware’s) seem to support it, so why not Stone?
  • And Stone even seemed to support that with the legacy UI, so maybe it is reasonable to support it for OE2

But none of these are all that convincing, I think.

Thanks @mattwrkntn . We often work with ultrasound studies which are usually only 2 series (1 image series with many instances, and 1 SR series with 1 instance) so opening a single series for viewing makes perfect sense for us.

Our work is largely with CT studies so it is often several series. Usually 1 or 2 series with only 1 instance (recons/scouts), a few axial series (several hundred instances each), possibly a coronal and sagittal reconstruction (several hundred instances each), and possibly MIPs or other series (with hundreds of instances each). These studies may or may not also have a SR or other reports.

So all that being said, we usually just need to review the thin slice axial series (lung kernel) and opening all series is not necessary. That was my motivation, at least.
