Project status update & roadmap

Dear Orthanc Community,

I’m getting back to you 3 weeks after the launch of our Open Collective project which has been an unexpected success so far. We have already collected around 2500 EUR of monthly donations and around 8000 EUR from one-time donations, mainly from a company who has specifically selected items to be implemented from the Orthanc TODO. As you might imagine, I’m very happy about that !

On another side, I’m still “worried”: together with funding from Osimis, 90% of the regular monthly income for the Orthanc project comes from only 2 companies which makes me quite uncomfortable wrt the risk of variations in recurring revenue. I would clearly prefer 10 companies donating each 200 EUR a month compared to a single company donating 2000 EUR a month. However, huge thanks to all backers and sponsors who have bootstrapped our funding campaign !

As you’ve seen, we have released Orthanc 1.10.0, Python 4.0 and Orthanc WebViewer 2.8. These updates contain security patches so I highly recommend updating ASAP. A huge thanks to Sébastien for doing all these releases in his free time !

Next to the OpenCollective funded work, I’ve also secured funding from companies directly interested in some features. This will define the immediate roadmap and should get me busy for the next 2-3 months:

  • Storing more Dicom Tags in the DB to speed up searches (C-Find, QIDO-RS and tools/find) and some dicom-web routes.

  • Displaying some overlays in CR images in StoneViewer (e.g. overlays containing some laterality annotations)

  • Expand the anonymize/modify API to overwrite some pixels data (e.g. to hide Patient data burned in US images or to “destroy” a patient face in a head MRI)

  • Items from the TODO

  • I’m still working on the Orthanc Explorer 2 new User interface with a targeted date for a preliminary release mid-March.

  • And of course, as usual, support to the community and bug-fixing

Thanks for your attention
