ORTHANC upgrade on the Windows

Hello. I’m going to upgrade version 21.2.0 (1.9.1) to the latest available version 23.9.1 (1.12.1) on the Windows with relatively big DB like 7 TB in volume, so a little bit worried about uninterrupted process of the ORTHANC using. It cannot be stopped for a long time.
There are couple of stupid questions to make a process smooth enough:

  • Is DB need to be upgraded too or mentioned versions of server uses the same DB version? If yes, should it be performed after server upgrade?
  • Is previous version should be uninstalled first? Service stopped before upgrade?
  • Is new version will get all current settings automatically?
    Thanks to everyone for reply.

Hi,

  • No, you don’t need to perform any operations on the DB, Orthanc will automatically apply the required changes (there are no major changes in the DB schema but Orthanc might add a few new fields and/or tables → that should be almost immediate).
  • Yes, on Windows, the installer will complain if Orthanc is already installed → you must uninstall it first. Note that Orthanc will keep all your configurations and data during uninstallation.
  • Yes, old settings will remain and new configurations introduced by the newer versions will get their default value.

HTH,

Alain.

A lot of thanks, Alain! The upgrade passed successfully without any visible issues, previous settings were taken automatically (anyway I tested the scenario on another PC first, using the previous version installation and some imported real data).
One issue (present in the previous version as well) - the performance of data loading, but it seems because of the PC HW itself and data size.
All the best,
Alex
