A social experiment - Collaborative map of the Orthanc users

Dear all,

We know that the Orthanc community is worldwide, with many people using the project in many different ways. Yet, we don’t know much about one another. Identifying people and organizations in the community can also be important to bootstrap new projects, whether industrial or scientific.

Back in 2015, I tried to maintain a list of people and entities using Orthanc, based on a poll where people were free to send me their details by email. This initiative was quite successful in the first days, but it now looks rather unmaintained and old-fashioned. So, I would like to revive it!

I have therefore set up a collaborative online map using Ushahidi, a crowdsourcing mapping platform. Each mark corresponds to an Orthanc user and contains a title, a description, a type of use case, possibly a logo, as well as a location. The description can be kept short and the location can be approximate (e.g., at the level of a city or province): no need to pinpoint an exact address! Marks are owned by the person who creates them: nobody else can edit or remove them, and you’re free to update or delete yours at any time.

Here is the link to the map: https://map.orthanc-server.org/

It should only take about 3 minutes: just click on Sign up in the left menu, enter your e-mail and choose a password, then you can fill the “Orthanc user” survey by clicking on the Add new post button.

So, this is a call to the community: if you are using Orthanc, please add yourself to the map! The more it fills up, the better case we have for feature requests, funding conversations, conferences, and more.

If this social experiment works and the community embraces the initiative, the map will be included on the official Orthanc homepage — which, arguably, could also use a little revamping.

I thank you in advance for your collaboration!

Kind Regards,
Sébastien-
